Hal,
I went to a boat shop and bought a Coast Guard approved extinguisher bracket. I lined up one of the holes in the bracket to coincide with one of the sheet-metal screws securing the shift coupler mounting plate. I had to drill a small hole in the marine bracket to line it up with the other screw in the shift-coupler cover. There are four screws securing the cover plate....I used the ones toward the front of the car in order to give me enough clearance so the back of the extinguisher would clear the jump-seat bulkhead. I used an awl to punch an extremely small opening in the carpet, lined up the bracket with the holes, and screwed them in, securing the front of the shifter cover plate at the same time. Had to go with two slightly longer screws to allow for the extra thickness of the bracket and the carpet.
