Looking at the Bentley SC Manual, I don't see a vacuum booster, just the advance line to the rear of TB and the retard line to the front of the TB.
It is my understanding that the retard only works on deceleration for emmission control.
Is the vac. line for your advance good? No leak? Open the cap, remove the line from the rear of the TB, suck on it hard. Do you see the advance inside the distributor move? Full range?
Does the vacuum hold?
Any play in the distributor shaft? Did you maintain it by putting a few drops of oil under the felt-plug periodically?
If you suspect that the parts/weights/springs inside are not working correctly, there are threads on this board to refurbish the distributor.
