I wouldn't say it the same way as jack, or for the same reasons, but I'm personally not upset by high energy prices. I don't know what else will push the US into buying more fuel-efficient cars and developing alternative energy sources. I'm not sure $70/bbl and $3.00/gal will, but it is a start.

I admit I currently don't drive to work, can afford to buy gas for when I do drive the 911, etc. But you can buy a decent economy car brand new for <$12K MSRP or a good used one for less, so most of the people struggling to buy gas to fill up their SUVs do have options. The guys who have to drive big pickups for work, unfortunately, don't [have options].
