Immortality is achieved by making the greatest impact you can (hopefully positive) on the people you meet in life. You will be gone one of these days, but your spirit will live on in the people you touch.
I do not believe that there is a heaven or hell or reincarnation, etc. The time we have here on Earth is all we have. We *must* make the most of that time. Be a good person. Be nice to other people. Love your children. Enjoy your family and friends.
Develop a philosophy on life that makes you comfortable. That may be religion, it may be humanism it may be something else. The challenge is to find what works for you.
That's what it's all about.
