The WIG like a hovercraft operates close to the ground (or water) on a cushion of compressed for air for lift.
A hovercraft uses a fan, the Wig uses forward motion and it's wings.
Back in the day, all we had were rumors and small grainy spy pictures published in Janes Ships.
