I don't wonder why. Sure, Ferrari is probably selling out their $150K cars, and I think they've already been bought by Fiat.
The thing about any automobile maker is they always want more income, and the current automotive market involves more than just supercars. 10 yrs. ago, no one would have thought Porsche would build an SUV, and they have, and we're all pretty much used to it, I think. Ferrari would be foolish not to consider an endeavor like Porsche's if they want more market share. Sure, it's ugly and goes against concept of what a Ferrari is, but nearly all of Porsche's offerings go against what we think Porsche is (water), and at least half of the lineup is ugly. But what to they care what what we, as old air-cooled fans, care? One, we're not necessarily dumping tons of stock in the company; and two, we're not yet buying at retail, 997s, Boxters, Caymans or what-not.
Ferrari realizes this too. If they rely on traditional two-seater performance cars, as a living company they may as well shoot themselves in the head.
Why do you think Lotus is building a
a larger version of the Elise?
