paste, why do you think SC would remain a self-contained independent state if it did leave the Union?

I forsee every radical splinter group within the state itself declaring independence from whatever government is formed after leaving the federal umbrella. Leaving a patchwork of fiefdoms, or rival warlords to control and devastate the utopia of an independent SC.

Then the federal governement starts the carpet bagging(er carpet bombing) and after a succesful invasion declares martial law on the rogue state.

Everyone is happy except the southern seperatists who didn't learn from their mistakes the first time (1860s) or the second time (2000s).

They proceed to fantasize about how leaving the federal government will result in idyllic days spent lolling about the plantation porch in white Col. Sanders' suits sipping Mint Julips humming "Song of the South" with Uncle Remus and discussing the brutality of the blue-bellies while overseeing their unpaid laborers toiling in the fields and plotting revenge on the "unlawful" aggression of the Federals. The whole time being completely ignorant of the fact that had their ancestors not been such pussies in the 1860s and fought harder they never would have been in this situation in the first place.
