to me, it sounds like the teacher was trying to be just as sarcastic...

"I hope that the “exercise” not only provided you with quality time for you and Anna, but also was evidence of Anna’s progress and achievement as a student, not only in science but throughout academically."

Sounds like she was trying to say "this was the purpose of the exercise, you obviously didn't take it seriously, so I'm going to tell you what the outcome *should* have been.."

or maybe even:

"you obviously dont know or care enough about your daughter's academic career to review something simple as an assignment when given the chance to, so i'll take it on myself to tell you that she's doing great, not only here but in all classes..."

or something to that effect... i dunno, maybe I'm reading too far between the lines... awesome letter on your part though! lol
