Very nice article and photos. If you are interested in old things like this we should talk. I have a large collection of PanAm stuff and did some work for them years ago. It was a big loss to America when the airline went bust and there will never be another one like it.

One thing I have that needs to be restored is a map of the world that hung in Tempelhof Air Base. It was from Pan Am and showed their routes all over the world in 1959 or so when they started flying to Berlin. Standing 7 foot tall and in a circle, it was left at the airbase when it was turned over to Germany in 1993. It was given to me and I tried to give it back to Pan Am to have it returned to their museum in Florida, but after handing it over to their ops guys in Berlin Tegel airport it was misplaced. Some friends of mine called me after finding it broken in half (it was on a inch thick board) and in a dumpster, having been thrown away by someone at Lufthansa who did not care for Pan Am. I retreived it and its now at my house waiting for me to find some spare time!

You may as well remember Len Morgan, the writer at Flying magazine? I have his old WW2 maps showing the entire Middle East and Africa areas where he flew the PBY Catalina and it details many of the areas that are mentioned above.

Lots of old history falling by the wayside with the WW2 Vets passing away. Hope we are able to save as much as possible of it...
