Opening Word took 1 second on powerbook g4 (1.67ghz), 3 seconds on macbook (2.1 ghz duo) and 12 seconds on IBM thinkpad (1.5 ghz). She is technically correct, but she should be steering you towards MACs based on my data
After opening Word they all open successive documents in 1 second.
