Just got my buddy's fax - here's the note on his smog papers:
Attention:
The California emission program ia a thirty-year event. Your
vehicle will not require an inspection in 2007 because this inspection is
good for two years. Therefore, YOU WILL BE exempt from emission
testing for the remainder of the vehicle life. Unless you sell the vehicle
before 2008.
I typed the above verbatim from the fax (.tif - couldn't cut & paste).
The caps "YOU WILL BE" are the DMV's. Hope this makes a lotta you guys happy! - actually you'd have found out when you take your car in for smog.
