Many people do not understand that "Black Americans" are truly bilingual. Most, like your receptionist, can converse with other groups in a manner that transcends their economic and social disadvantage. And yet when speaking with "friends" of a similar background proper American English is hardly ever used. But of course this is all changing. The Hip-Hop culture is making a huge impact in America as well as other countries (Australia). While most may find it hard to understand two black people as they speak to each other I can guarantee that your kids will have no problem.
