The most severe youth movements in the past century were the flappers and zootsuiters of the 1920's represented decadence by exploring fast dancing and bathtub gin, the greasers of the 50’s were about rebellion and a quasi-criminal lifestyle in rebuttal against the Ward and June Cleaver mentality. The 60’s harbored in the free-love drug age. The birth of a lazy generation but at least they didn’t get into too many scrambles. The 80’s to 90’s seemed to glorify a gangsta lifestyle. The clothes were that of inmates, the music (rap) was void of melody (one of the 3 elements required in music) and the langue reflected a breakdown in grammar. It had legs because it seemed to evolve every few weeks with new words and phrases. It kept it fresh yet still represented the lowest common denominator. Not a good thing.
All the movements were always around piss'n Mom and Dad off - or so it seems.
Maybe the next influence youth movement will be based around math and science! Somehow I don’t think so…
