The 944 Turbo is an exceptional car. With very few modifications, a 951 will spank 996s, 997s, etc. easily. It was discovered VERY early in the production run that the 951 would easily outperform its much more expensive and "proper" sibling 911, so Porsche de-tuned the 944T so it wouldn't embarrass the 911 buyers.

Of course we know, it didn't take long for people to figure out that with minor adjustments to turbocharger output and ECU maps, the 944T would still walk all over the 911.

Although I like them both (for different reasons), I'd MUCH rather have a modded 951 than a modded 911. Performance-per-dollar, you simply can't beat one.
