NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, use you primary email to register for anything.
Go to hotmail (or one of the many other free email sites), get a free emailbox and voila... use that to register for whatever and check it once a week to dump out all the spam and check for the rare meaningful mail.
Did I mention never use your primary email to register for ANYTHING.
I have my work email that is just for that, a personal account for friends and family, and three other (free) email addresses that I use for questionable net surfing.
