Before I upgraded to the DVR box there was no charge for the old receiver,I am going to go back to the DTV website but I don't think they charge for receiver either. Got to check the small print:
FREE INSTALLATION AND RECEIVER
for the first three months
However both satellite companies and COX charge around $5 monthly for Tivo (DVR) service.
