I was into RHCP back with Blood, Sex, Sugar - or whatever the album was called back in about - what - '88-'89. They weren't frat, but weren't exactly edge, either. KROQ played the ***** out of them, which definitely didn't help the cause of keeping them pure. Californication confirmed for me that the boys went soft - but in a sort of mature way. Their edgier stuff seemed more like a walk down memory lane than new stuff.

I try not to think of the Peppers like how I think of New Order; slowly deflating to just pop junk after Joy Division fell apart.

If the Chili Peppers wanted to hold on to their edge, they needed to just break up like The Pixies did - which was while on top of their game.

But damn, now the memories are flooding back. Lot's of east downtown L.A. loft parties that spilled out onto the Taylor Yard railroad tracks for no apparent good reason. When you got tired of Anthony, you just turned on Black Francis and let him banshee it out 'til dawn.
