John,

Welcome to the Forum. You will find a lot of help here.

Where are you located? How was the 911 stored for these five years?

What is the condition of everything else?

I would not start it again for quite a while. Keep spraying the pump and turn the engine clockwise at the crank by hand (wrench). I would add some oil to the cylinders with the sparkplugs out. Drain the engine sump and oil tank, install new oil and filter.

Check the static ignition timing. I would then find TDC compression on #1 and remove the distributor. Have an auto-electric shop service it, install new points and run it in for quite some time. Reinstall the distributor timed as it was or at TDC.

All the while keep spraying the pump from both the lower (oil) side and the upper (fuel) side. With the link off the MFI pump, does the throttle lever return to the stop without help? With the rubber cover off the front (of the car) end of the pump, use a 4 mm bolt to pull & push on the rack. Is it free? Does it return to the stop without help? Do not force anything!

Please report what you find.

Before you try and start it, consult here again, there is much more. Don’t try and start it until everything is free and the other bases are covered. You don’t want to damage it. “An ounce of prevention is worth $5000++ of cure.”

Best,
Grady
