You must understand the enemy. They are fueled by the shame manifested in the contradiction in how an inferior civilization (the infidel West) is superior to their own in every imaginable metric (education, economics, inventiveness, etc).

But that is precisely why we must demonstrate to them that our civilisation is not inferior - and indeed has a great deal to offer. We do not demonstrate this by waging war against these poor benighted people. We might get there by demonstrating largesse and compassion - but not by turning their country into a battleground.
