It's not "rightfully" Israeli land, and never was. You may be conflating ancient Israel, with the modern state of Israel founded in 1948, but the two are not and never have been the same thing.
Edit: Here's the legal Israeli boundary. It is still in effect today, and is routinely ignored by Israel in their quest for more Palestinian land.
