YES! YES! YES! I have rebuilt 3 engines on an American engine stands,2 3.0l and a 3.2l, with no problem whatsoever. All I did was trim two washer per stud to clear the lip that the engine case has on the rear mating surface (see pictures). You want to distribute the load through the washers and then to the case, not on the lip.

You just need to plan ahead if you intend to remove flywheel since you can't get it out when the eng is on the stand, so do it before you put the eng on the stand. And the case can be split and put back together with no problem...
