Wayne, this is easy to explain and has been going on a long time. Remember Nixon signed the welfare act not a democrat. 'Pubs have more "minorities" in their cabinents trying to show they're inclusive, and nominate "minorities" to the Supreme court (with hopefully 'pub leanings). The 'pubs want to show that they really are touchy-feely love everyone guys, and the 'crats want to show they have some fiscal responsibility and take crime seriously. Hence, one should vote in a backhanded way ie for the 'pubs if left leaning, and for the 'crats if right leaning.

Unfortunately, as long as the electoral college exists, there can only be two parties. I don't think the electorate is fed up enough to do anything about it as yet.
