I'm blessed. My 82 year old father is alive and well and as smart and ornery as he always has been. We have him over for Sunday dinner every week. My 3 kids adore him.
Tonight I cooked chicken. The smoker box was filled with wet oak from a wine barrel. Deep cabernet smoke. The chicken was dry rubbed with a hot, spicy rub then smoked at about 240 degrees for a little more than an hour. Sprayed with apple juice every 15 minutes. Stubbs as a finishing sauce.
We had sweet white corn from Brentwood and watermelon and cantaloupe. Apple pie with ice cream for dessert. My wife and I are drinking a Cakebread chardonnay and my dad is drinking Anchor Steam.
The kids clothes are a mess and their fingers are sticky. Smiles all around. I'm a lucky man.
My grill.
About 2/3 done.
Brynn. The littlest one.
