car seats
Greetings,
I have an '00 986 S. And a kid on the way. Need to make kid and car compatible. Fortunately, the car came with the airbag adapter bar (but not the seat).
Background: The Boxster child seats disable the airbags using a special belt buckle adapter. Adapter and seat sold only from Porsche. Porsche sells three size seats, basically infant, toddler and child. Two dealers have told me Porsche has now discontinued the seats, however they remain on PCNA's website. Used seats seem rare, occasionally on eBay.
How are folks out there handling this? Here are the options as I see it.
1. Pay PCNA $850 for the Porsche infant seat/adaptor bar kit. Sell in ~9 months. Buy the next seat ($700).
2. Buy one of the Porsche larger seats. Use generic infant carseat until kid can use the Porsche seat; requires creative use of the buckle from Porsche child seat to disable the airbags.
3. Reverse-engineer the buckle and use generic seats (not preferred, concern with obvious danger from airbags).
What is the collective experience with the seats?
Thanks,
Paul
