Yup. Alcohol (not just beer) can cause heartburn, as can caffeine, acidic foods, lots of food at once, certain medications.

BTW although you may want to avoid medication, you really should see a GI doc. If you've had heartburn for years and haven't had a scope, you probably should just to see if there is a mechanical reason you're having heartburn or if precancerous changes have occurred.

PS: Prilosec OTC is half dose prescription Prilosec. Nexium in prescription strength is about the same acid reduction as prescription strength Prilosec.
