Definitely have a compression and leakdown test done. It's cheap insurance and very telling. It save me from one bad purchase. You might want to get a Little more specific about 1st and 2nd gear being difficult. That is somewhat true but could also be early signs of needing some transmission work. How does the car idle when cold and warmed up?
