It's actually worse for dogs than humans, their heat transfer systems are pathetic compared to ours. I get upset when I see people take a dog to an outdoor event that lasts for more than an hour. Dogs need water about once an hour in hot outside weather, when I hunted my German Wirehair (easily a dog marathon run), even in cool autumn weather, I watered her every 45 minutes or so, and fed her a small amount every two hours.
