I'm one of those nutty animal-lovers, and when I see or hear of someone torturing an animal like that, I want to throw them in a jail cell in Death Valley w/ no A/C and very little air supply, and have the guard come by every once in a while and say, "sorry, I forgot all about you....."
People suck sometimes.
