Funny story (from my point of view, anyway):

For a brief period before going to grad school, I paid the rent and saved for tuition as a repo/tow driver. During the day I had various areas I'd patrol and at night I repossessed cars.

One day in July or August, it was 100 degrees or so outside and sunny, and in one of my client's lots I happened upon a Honda 4-door with a cute little dog in the backseat panting. Owner nowhere to be found. I'm a fanatical dog-lover too - so I popped the lock on the door of the Honda, dropped the e-brake, and whisked the Honda, dog and all, back to my lot. I let the poor fella out and took him into my office and gave him a big bowl of cold water, which he was very happy to have. The owner came and picked up his car and got an earful from me. He never said a word.

People Are Stupid Addendum: On my way back to my tow lot with the car, someone saw the dog in the back of the towed car and called in to our dispatch to complain about the cruelty. I got patched through, and was ranted at until I cut them off and asked "How is a dog in the back of a car being towed somehow different (and cruel) versus a dog in the back of a car being driven?? If anything, I'm driving more slowly and deliberately?!?!". Having been 0wn3d, the complainer promptly hung up.

I mostly can't stand people. I mostly LOVE dogs though.
