I would budget a little more for the engine and transmission. I would expect to pay 4-5K for a solid 3.0L engine, then 700-1000 for a solid 915 transmission. You can get a transmission for $500, but it will probably have some worn synchros in it. With a mid-year car you do not typically have a front mounted oil cooler, that is necissary for a 3.0L engine. So you'll have to budget for the lines and at least the trombone cooler. Not far beyond your estimates, but not cheap either. You would have a nice light car with a 3.0L engine though. Could be a fun project.
