I’m not sure I agree with this, although I see your point. The problem is that the capital markets want instant results. They need to show a profit relatively quickly. This is why the government needs to fund longer term projects. One example would be the space program. Countless advances have come out of the space program, but you don’t see them, nor do you see the profit potential, at the beginning of the project. The government is the only entity that can fund such projects.
