I agree. What's interesting to me is in Los Angeles a person can really struggle in certain everyday circumstances if they don't speak at least conversational Spanish.
For example, I've found it's almost easier to speak Spanish when I go to places like Home Depot, the grocery store, and especially fast food places. The beauty of this is the more I speak it, the better I get with it until it becomes almost second nature.
I once heard that a person really knows a second language once they "dream" in that language.
