Eastiest way to spot them is the 'Q' on the number plate (tag). Pretty sure this indicates stolen / recovered / insurance write off / home build. Only way around this is to buy a non-year dependent or private tag (as on the black car above). Andyjboy may well be able to clarify this.
In the UK people generally steer clear of 'Q' plate cars.
