Living in the NE, we smell passing skunks all the time. It's bad, but nothing hard to deal with. The worst naturally occurring smells, incidentally food related smells that I've experienced. (I'm not going to go there on the death thing. Haven't experienced it, and don't want to)

1) Durian Fruit -- The National Fruit of Thailand! By all accounts, it smells like hell, tastes like heaven. Personally, I've never been able to get over the smell. But the "processed (ie: descented)" version in ice-cream is great! There's a reason that all of the hotels in southeast asia have signs of the durian fruit with the circle and slash. If you don't be believe me, stop at your local asian grocery store and buy one. Cut it open at your own risk.

2) My daughters would maintain that Thai shrimp paste is the worst. A tiny dab in the wak and your house will smell "asian" for a week!
