This just in from ESPNRadio:
"It's becoming a question whether the 71 & 60 Red Sox can even finish above .500"
OK, the Sox are down 5 starters as of today, with Ortiz sent back to check a cardiac arrhythmia.* That sounds like a familiar predicament. Like, oh, yeah, the Yankees, who fielding for
months a decimated line-up managed to keep pace with, and eventually surpass, the Sox.
heh.
Oh, and keep the hackneyed $ comments. The Sox (and their owners, the
New York Times) write checks as large as they can; and their ability to write checks is a function of their degree of success.
ThaaaaAAAT's right -- the NYT owns the Red Sox. The
Times can't even be loyal to their home town, which was stupid enough to name a Square after them. How can the NYT be expected to keep its homeland's interests first? (obligatory political content

* I hope it's obvious that I wish neither Ortiz nor any Red Sox player any personal ill will. Not even Ramirez (whom Francona told my cousin after a few pops is "probably the stupidest athlete I've ever met").
