Sorry, I wasn't clear. Of the 62% of Apache installs - I'd be suprised if more than 10% were on windows. So - I'd be suprised if the installed base of Apache on Windows is more than 6% of the total market. Apache is not necessarily running on Linux. (since we were debating the security merits of the OS, not the webserver). IIS on the other hand - doesn't run on anything but Windows.... (although even that is probably possible although likely very unstable).

30% seems MUCH more realistic than 10%, I would agree with those figures. Its only getting larger too with .NET's gaining momentum. Give it another 2 years and it will be closer to 50%. .Net is just too good and getting better all the time.
It will be interesting to see what happens with .NET. .NET is clearly a winning way to build windows desktop apps that interact with web services, but the industry is moving away from that model and more towards web UIs. It's possible to build web UIs with .NET, but .NET costs money and is practically speaking unsupported (MS tech support has been found to be less effective for the $$ than the psychic freinds hotline (yes - with the same question). I think a more likely winner is one of the upstarts like Ruby (with or without Rails).

To McMark's point.....Andy knows what he's doing and second guessing him is a bad idea right now.
I said that too.

It's a bummer the club site is down. I'm sure Andy will have it up again shortly. It's probably a good thing - I'm getting more work done (In Java, not .NET )
