the alloy lug nuts must be deeper than about 15MM which is ~ what the depth of the steel lugs are. IIRC. I think the alloy lug nuts are about 21-22 mm in depth. So with the alloy lug you get thread engagement ~22mm vs. 15mm on the steelies.
