I was camping around the west and asked a ranger if he could give me a general size of the cat that was in my camp based on the size of his paw print. He reckoned 100-125#. He said their territory is around 10-15 sq mi.
As we were bs'ing he told me that from Sac Cal north to the border is "infested with cougars".
A few weeks later I'm hanging at a opal mine camp in a Fed wildlife area and one guy tells the story about him riding his mt cycle in N Calif and breaking down which was hours walk back. He was tracked by a cougar for hours during the day. You can't make up the story or fear he talked about. btw, wild story.
