Whew!! The answer was yes I fried it. I swapped out the old motherboard into the case (going from Intel back to an AMD processor in the process), wired it all back together and it booted. Thank God.
I am now in the process of putting all our digital photos of the kids onto a CD and transferring them to the iMac.
Can you imagine what would have happened if I had lost all the photos of our kids? I think my wife might have divorced me...
