No, at the time I enlisted in the Air Force, they were very upfront about what I was in for, but then you must remember that in 1967 there was a waiting list to get in the USAF and in the location I enlisted they would not take anyone without a high school diploma or better.
Today, they're near desperation to get recruits, so much so that the entry requirements have been substantially reduced.
