Bent valve, is it worth it to fix..........

My lawn mower?

I've been struggling with my lawn mower for a couple of weeks now. Cleaned the carb, checked for spark, even checked to make sure the flywheel didn't break the locater key and spin on the shaft. All checked out, but still, no start. Tonight I pulled the valve cover off and found a dropped exhaust valve. It won't pull out of the guide, so I'm assuming it's bent.

Did a search, and the parts are going to cost ~$30 or so. After that, I figure it'll only cost me my time, and my time is free when I'm fixing something for myself, to paraphrase Peter Egan.

Plus, I kind of enjoy this stuff.

Is anyone else here cheap enough to do a top end rebuild on a lawn mower that was bought used at a yard sale for less than $75?

(BTW, an equivalent mower (6.5HP, RWD, mulch/bag/side discharge) would probably cost $300-400.)

Maybe I should just hire a gardener.
