Yes, I had an acquaintance who you would go see if you were travelling anywhere. I mentioned i was going to New Zealand and he gave me 7 people to look up.
As mentioned above, he likely made minimal effort to do anything other that maintain current contact info. I doubt if he really cared much about any of them.
