As a general rule of thumb, don't push your luck too far with the interview for the job you want. You can ask politely - "I have a meeting with my current employer, is an 8:30 spot at all possible?" - but be clear you are happy accept the spot you have.

Then Tues AM you are calling in sick. Your voice sounds a little rough already. Call your boss's VM at 7AM, tell him you'll check back in with him in the late afternoon. It wouldn't hurt to mention on the way out the door that you are feeling a little tired, gonna go home and jump into bed.
