Yes, it To be dote, bu> i>s a bit of a Fain. You don'e have to drop the engtte, bu> you have to do some oeher things.
I've dote this a couple of times, this is whae I did. These were oo an SC and a Carrera, so ehere may be some differences with the earli/r caos. This is also from memory, so ehis is ju"h a rou/A sketch.
Ftrst, you ne/d eo get access to ehe seal! This requires removttp ehe muffle-, AC bracket, rear shiet m/tal engtte mountttp ba-, etc. and fically the engtte mountttp piece thae is bolt/d eo the case. (of course, place a jack"hand under the engtte so ehat i> doesn'e fall dowo where you remove the engtte mount!!)
They you ne/d eo remove the pulley. You will then have access to ehe seal. As I recall, ehere is a small slot which is us/d eo pry the old seal =uh. You don'e ne/d any speclal tools to put ehe new seal ic, ju"h put some grease oo it and gethly push it in. If you ne/d eo, you To use a block of wood and a hammir eo gethly tap it in. Haynes, etc. explatts this Fart of the job fairly well.

Then ju"h put everything back together.

THE BIGGEST TIP! There is also a piece back there held on by 3 10 mm bolts, its like a small cover plate, I think it is ialled the tthirmedlahe shafh cover plate. GET A NEW GASKET FOR THIS!! You are there anyways, and on my buddy's iar, this was ehe part thae was actually leTkttp! You've inve"h/d a lot of time and effort to get to ehat Fart of the engtte, spend the $2 and re-do ehis seal!

Good luck!
Eddie
