As far as why I dont rebuild my engine after over 15 years of beating it to death..
Well my tired old engine still pulls very strong..If it aint broke dont fix it is my philosophy.
The car does not see the road that often maybe 300-500 miles a year so in reality it only has around 5,000-7,000 miles on this engine. I do regular service as required.
I also know that at Lemans and at Daytona these cars run at full throttle for 24 hours.. That means that they are at or near Redline for literally thousands of shifts with no problems. I beat my car when racing but that does not happen every time that I drive it..
That is also why Porsche has always been so successful in racing.. Reliability..
You cant win if you dont finish!
I also have rebuilt literally 100s of 356 motors that have been raced and with the exception of bearings and rings there is lillte or no internal damage.. unless they have been granaded or run low on oil..

i think if i ever sell my '87 cab my ad will read........."BEAT YELLOW BIRD @ LAGUNA" or better yet "RAN 300MPH @ BONNEVILLE", or maybe "BEAT BIG DADDY'S SWAMP RAT TOP FUELIE" or" BEAT ROBBY GORDONS TROPHY TRUCK" or " BEAT McMILLIANS CLASS 1 PORSCHE" and finally " I BEAT THE POOP OUT OF THE MARS ROVER"!!!!! this im sure will draw EVERY PELICAN out of its nest and i will be writing on the computer defending myself for the next 20 years!
i think execmalibu, you and tom cruise should A) race some individuals here and once and for all, prove the cars capabilities or B) rewrite ad stating.........."Targa FOR SALE". and leave it at that.
this one has been very entertaining to say the least. bragging rights come with winning a race or series of races thruout a season. you cant ever have those rights...............UNTIL YOU ACTUALLY RACE and PROVE IT! no matter how much money you have! thats the wonderful thing about racing. all the money in the world doesnt make you a winner. skill, determination, incredible prep, still allow the little guys to beat the snot out of factory teams!
