I RELY ON THE INSTUMENTS.. IF YOU GUYS DONT THEM WE ARE AT AN IMPASS..
I made the statements that the car went 165 and that the engine pulls to 8,500 RPM based on what the instruments (gauges) read!
When flying IFR your are tought to rely 100% on your instruments or you will die.
Porsche gauges (VDO) are GERMAN made and are as accurate as any automotive gauge on the market. Perhaps not as accurate as modern aviation instruments (gauges) but probably very very close.
1) The tach in any 911 has an 8 (8,000) as the last mark on the dial. I let the needle go well past the 8 mark before I shift.. Is it 3MM or 4MM past I dont know because I cant measure it. I immediatly shift so the pointer is only there for 1/10 of a second +/-.
Now you guys might argue how do I prove that I am shifting at 8,500RPM and not 8,499 or maybe only 8,400 or maybe 8,525.. I dont know you got me there!
2) The Speedo in the car to both myself and Tony indicated around 168 MPH+/-.. Again there is only a mark at 160 and 170.. The needle was closer to the 170 mark. How fast was I going exactly?
There have been people who represent that they are Mathemeticians. They say they have done ALL of the calculations and they have the answer!
That is impossible!
They dont have all of the facts to input onto their equations!
1) They never had the diameter of the tires or final ratio of the trans!
note: The diameter of the tires is not static it changes with pressure and tempature and with tread-ware.
2) They never asked what was the temperature or elevation at the time of the run. Higher tempature and altitude means thinner air.
3) The most important factor NOT in their equation was that I was following closely behind two other faster cars (Slip Streaming/Drafting)... Any racer knows that drafting behind faster cars pulls you through the air with much less power required!
Please also note that I have driven past the radar displays on the side of the road that tell you your speed. When the radar told me I am going 80MPH I looked at my speedo and the needle was near the 80MPH mark.. Was it 79.5 or 80.2? I have no idea!
I have offered to bring the car out and to shift it well past the 8,000 mark on the tach..
If you guys are now going to question the accuacy of a Porsche tach as an excuse to go sideways.. Then we are at an impass..
If you bring instruments how do I know that they are 1000% accurate?
It is beginning to look like no matter how many people stand up and say "I was there and I saw it" that you guys will find an excuse to ignore the truth..
