I've read and re-read (and re-read) malibuexec's posts, and here's what I find:

"They have seen this car run at over 165 mph" (This from the ebay ad)

"The speedo showed 168 mph" (This from his first post to this thread)

"The 165 MPH was 10 years ago in the open desert on a 5 mile long straight road with a loose NUT behind the wheel!" (This from 10-12-06)

No where else - repeat no where else - does he mention the 165 mph.
Nor does he state or promise anywhere - repeat anywhere - that the car 'will' or 'can' or 'is capable of' 165 mph. Every mention of 165 mph was in the past tense with no claim to current capablity or a promise to exhibit or perform this speed.

If you don't want to believe that he made that speed in that vehicle - that's your choice - fine. But it seems there is a pervasive mis-reading that he said it would, or could or that he would demonstrate that speed: that just isn't in the record.

(No one was with me when I took my old Fiat 124 Spyder - after I rebuilt the engine and broke it in - up to 124 mph. Maybe that wasn't much of a feat come to think of it...but it was 26 years ago).
