Someone sees a potential product, and decides to market it. Rush was a product, and someone saw the potential.

Sponsors cannot be called underwriting in the sense that AAR was underwritten. Sponsors are sales, that is the entire point of the product. Limbaugh did not get sponsors to help him further his career, he created an audience and sold a product to sponsors.
AAR got people to flat out invest in them even though they had NO product.
