There are a couple of problems that I see.

Most of the teachers that I know are liberals to begin with and the way they dress they have no place to conceal a weapon, I haven't seen a teacher in a coat (sport jacket) or suit jacket in years. They dress as bad as the kids. Find a female teacher who will carry concealed?

Let's make the kid's behavior the responsibility of the parents, that sounds like a splendid idea. Maybe if parents took the time to go through a kids backpack on occasion they would get some idea of how the little ****s are behaving or if they are planning on going postal in the school. Maybe if the parents looked in the kids room once in a while and if they found rounds of ammo they might figure out something bad might be in the works.

As far as I am concerned if you give teachers guns or the opportunity to carry a concealed weapon they will be shooting each other and if a kid is bad enough they may even use the gun on a kid once in a while, did you ever think of that.

Now before the teachers in the crowd smack me down let me say that my wife teaches and has for many years and I know many good teachers but there are always going to be some wacko's in any group, how are you going to sort out the nut cases. They won't submit to psychological analysis for fear the results would cause them to get fired.

When I went to school my parents knew WTF was going on in school, on the bus or playing in the neighborhood. I got my a$$ kicked a few times when I was in school, most of the time it was by my mother. On a few occasions it was by a nun or priest. When that happened, I usually got a double dose when I got home. Word traveled faster than I could in those days and my mother would be waiting for me when I walked through the door.

I have no regrets, I grew up to respect authority, my parents and knew what civil behavior was, unfortunately that is not the case today with a small percentage of young people.

Teaching is a hard, thankless job undertaken by many dedicated young people. The job is hard enough w/o making them police officers as well. Your letter is well intended and I applaud you for going public with your opinion. I just think the solution is in the hands of the parents and that is where it should remain.

By the way, I hope your letter gets published in the WSJ, I'll be watching for it.
