I haven't read this whole thread, so I apologize if this question has been asked before. Flat out it takes hp to maintain a top speed. If it takes 8500 rpm to get the car to 165 MPH in fifth gear, then it will take, what, 275 hp to attain 165 MPH? Does this engine develop 275 hp at 8500 rpm??
Second, what does the ability of an engine being able to rev to 8500 rpm in first, second, and third have to do with a car being able to do 165 mph?
